Resident Evil Requiem DLC May Return to Spencer Mansion

Resident Evil Requiem's next DLC is expected to expand Spencer's story and may revisit Spencer Mansion. CAPCOM has confirmed neither the location nor a release date.

Resident Evil Requiem's next major story beat may take players back to Spencer Mansion. The setting has not been confirmed. Writer Haris Orkin has said the game's Spencer storyline will continue in the upcoming DLC. His comments came in an interview, not a separate CAPCOM announcement. The final title, content, trailer and release date are still unknown.

Spencer's story continues

Orkin discussed the planned continuation on the Distance NERDing Podcast. He said Resident Evil Requiem contains a Spencer story arc and that the DLC will help players understand it more deeply. Right afterward, he admitted that he probably should not have revealed the information. IGN's report on the interview identifies it as the source of the tease, not an official CAPCOM press release.

That confirms that Spencer's role may not end with the base game. The expansion is meant to add more context to his arc. Reports say the DLC is still at the script-writing stage. It is not ready for release, and there is no confirmed launch window.

Oswell E. Spencer is already dead by the time of Resident Evil Requiem. Any further look at his story would likely involve earlier events or a story device that revisits the past. Neither the interview nor the available details says which route CAPCOM will take.

The story also connects to Grace Ashcroft. Resident Evil Requiem uses her to link its new material to the wider series. The destroyed Raccoon City setting ties the game to the events that shaped Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 2.

Why Spencer Mansion fits

Spencer Mansion is the obvious setting for a story about the series' origins. A return could put Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy in the place where the first game established Resident Evil's core horror identity. It would also give the DLC a direct visual and story link to Oswell E. Spencer.

That remains an inference, not a revealed plot detail. The available information confirms a continuing Spencer arc. It says nothing specific about the mansion, the playable characters or the period in which the expansion takes place. Calling a return to Spencer Mansion certain would turn a plausible reading of Orkin's comments into a false announcement. IGN makes the same distinction: the tease supports the continuation of Spencer's storyline, not DLC set in a particular location.

The remake problem

A return to Spencer Mansion could also lose some of its impact if CAPCOM uses the location repeatedly. A full remake of the original Resident Evil is said to be in development. The upcoming Resident Evil Veronica is also expected to feature a replica of the mansion inside its Antarctic Facility.

That creates a clear creative risk. The mansion works because it is recognisable and closely tied to the series' beginnings. Repeated versions could make it feel like a dependable franchise shortcut instead of a meaningful discovery. The question is not whether the setting can work again. It is whether Requiem's DLC can give it a purpose that differs from the other planned appearances.

The source material gives no release date, price, platform list or confirmed location for the expansion. It does report that the DLC is expected to launch after Resident Evil Veronica and that its scope will be larger than expansions released for previous entries. Those details show the project's ambition and possible schedule, but they do not confirm the final content. There is still no independently confirmed release window.

Reports have also linked Orkin's comments to an interview or panel connected with Meadowlark Comic Con. Those reports stress that CAPCOM has not separately confirmed the DLC's contents.

What remains unknown

CAPCOM could make the Spencer arc more than a tour of familiar landmarks. A historical chapter could add depth to the series' central mythology. A present-day investigation could show how Spencer's legacy affects Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy without simply repeating the first game's structure.

The stronger choice would be to use Spencer Mansion only if it moves that story forward. Resident Evil Requiem does not need another visit just because players recognise the location. The mansion needs a reason to matter again. Until CAPCOM confirms the expansion's setting and structure, the Spencer Mansion theory remains compelling speculation, not established fact.

DLC can extend a story in two different ways. It can add a self-contained episode built around familiar material. It can also continue the main narrative with consequences held back from the base game. The reported Spencer arc points toward the second approach, but the lack of a confirmed setting leaves the main creative question open. CAPCOM should put narrative purpose ahead of nostalgia. Another mansion visit will only feel worthwhile if it reveals something Resident Evil Requiem could not have delivered elsewhere.
