NVIDIA says Preset C can lift frame rates by up to 35% on RTX 40 and RTX 50 GPUs by swapping in a faster frame-generation model. The experimental setting is available through the NVIDIA App beta.
NVIDIA's comparison uses a GeForce RTX 5060, giving some context for its headline performance claim. Announced on October 13, 2026, the experimental option is available through the NVIDIA App beta for compatible games on GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 50 GPUs, as well as RTX Spark laptops.
What Preset C changes
Frame generation uses AI to create additional frames between those rendered by a game. NVIDIA describes a two-model process. One model uses game data such as motion vectors and depth; another calculates optical flow for elements including interface components and ray-traced effects. Preset C keeps the first model and replaces the optical-flow model with a lighter, faster algorithm that requires less computation.
The preset works with standard DLSS Frame Generation. It also supports Multi Frame Generation. Dynamic Multi Frame Generation is supported too. NVIDIA says Preset C can improve frame-generation performance in each mode, with a minor loss in image quality. That makes it a performance trade-off, not a cost-free upgrade.
The update arrived alongside a separate DLSS 5 model update. Preset C has a narrower role: it changes the model used in frame generation. It does not add a game feature or change a title's underlying rendering settings.
The performance claim
NVIDIA says Preset C can deliver up to 35% more performance than the existing Performance mode. The company's comparison uses a GeForce RTX 5060, while the preset is intended for compatible RTX 40 and RTX 50 GPUs and RTX Spark laptops. The 35% figure is NVIDIA's stated maximum; it is not a guaranteed gain in every supported game or scene.
For players who want higher displayed frame rates and can accept a small visual compromise, Preset C offers another setting to test. It changes the frame-generation model. It does not switch a game to a DLSS 5 rendering mode or alter the game's base quality settings.
How to enable it
Preset C comes through the NVIDIA App beta and is not enabled by default in the stable app. In Settings, turn on Opt in to access Beta or experimental features, then install the beta update. Open Graphics and select DLSS Override, followed by Model Presets. NVIDIA says a system restart may be required if Preset C does not appear after the update.
In the Frame Generation menu, choose Custom and select Preset C. The setting can be applied to one compatible game or globally to supported games. It works with standard Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation.
Frame generation inserts AI-generated frames between conventionally rendered ones. A higher displayed frame rate does not mean the game is rendering every frame itself, so the image-quality trade-off remains part of the setting.
