Lords of the Fallen Update 1.114 Brings Major Boss Weapon Changes

CI Games has released update 1.114 for Lords of the Fallen, introducing significant changes to boss weapon special attacks and addressing several technical issues on consoles. Here's what players can expect from the latest patch

CI Games has rolled out a substantial update for Lords of the Fallen, with patch 1.114 now available for console players. This update introduces a series of gameplay adjustments and technical fixes, focusing particularly on how boss weapon special attacks are unlocked and used. The patch is intended to address player feedback and streamline progression, while also resolving several persistent bugs.

Boss Weapon Special Attack Overhaul

The most notable change in update 1.114 is the reworking of boss weapon special attacks. Previously, players were required to complete specific quests to unlock these abilities. With the new patch, special attacks are now accessible as soon as a player meets the weapon's stat requirements, regardless of upgrade level. This adjustment removes the need to complete quest chains solely for weapon functionality, making these attacks more readily available during standard progression.

Quests that previously unlocked boss weapon special attacks will now provide upgrade materials instead. Additionally, new in-game tutorials have been added to explain the mechanics of boss weapons and their special attacks, aiming to improve clarity for both new and returning players. The balancing of these attacks has also been revised, with particular attention paid to their effectiveness at lower upgrade levels, which should help address concerns about early-game viability.

Technical Fixes and Quality-of-Life Improvements

Alongside gameplay changes, update 1.114 addresses several technical issues. Notably, a bug that caused save files to switch from Veteran to Legacy mode after leaving a Shared Co-op session has been fixed, though the patch does not retroactively restore already affected saves. Another fix resolves an issue where Full Entitlement players were teleported to the start of the game upon loading a save, but again, previously impacted files are not automatically restored.

Specific weapon-related bugs have also been addressed. For example, Saint Latimer's Relic Spear's special attacks now consume the correct number of Soulflay Charges, and The Hushed Saint's Halberd and Queen's Head Hammer special attacks now function as intended under all conditions. The update also improves messaging when attempting to purchase already owned Shrine items and corrects a controller highlight issue on the Character Creation screen. Language support has been expanded and refined, with updated controller terminology across multiple languages and the addition of Russian localisation.

Patch Availability and Remaining Issues

Lords of the Fallen update 1.114 is available now for console platforms. The patch is described as more substantial than previous updates, reflecting ongoing efforts to refine the game's systems and address player-reported problems. However, CI Games has indicated that not all outstanding issues have been resolved in this release, and further updates are expected as the studio continues post-launch support. Players affected by earlier save file bugs will need to wait for potential future solutions, as the current patch does not retroactively repair corrupted progress.

With Lords of the Fallen 2 scheduled for release in 2027, ongoing support for the current title remains a priority for the developer. The latest patch demonstrates a willingness to respond to community feedback, particularly regarding progression barriers and technical stability, but the full impact of these changes will become clearer as more players engage with the updated systems.

Understanding Patch Notes and Live-Service Updates

Patch notes are official documents released by developers to inform players about changes, fixes, and new features introduced in a game update. In live-service titles like Lords of the Fallen, regular patches are essential for maintaining balance, addressing bugs, and responding to player feedback. However, it's important to note that while patch notes outline intended fixes, the actual in-game results may vary until independently verified. Some issues may persist or require further updates, and not all fixes can be applied retroactively to previously affected save files. Players are encouraged to review patch notes carefully and report any ongoing problems to support channels to help guide future improvements.
