Laser Guided Games has confirmed that Fractured Worlds, a dark fantasy action RPG led by Matt Oelfke, will exit early access and launch in full on PlayStation 5, Steam and Epic Games Store on 26 August 2026

Laser Guided Games has officially announced that Fractured Worlds, its dark fantasy action RPG, will see a full release on PlayStation 5 and Steam on 26 August 2026. The game, which has been in early access on the Epic Games Store since October 2025, will also reach version 1.0 on Epic's platform on the same date. Fractured Worlds is directed by industry veteran Matt Oelfke, whose previous credits include Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.

Release Timing and Platform Details

Fractured Worlds will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Steam and Epic Games Store, ending its period of early access exclusivity on Epic. The early access phase began in October 2025, giving PC players a preview of the evolving build. The full release will bring the game to a wider audience, with PlayStation 5 players able to access the title for the first time. No details have been provided regarding physical editions or regional release differences, and pricing information has not yet been confirmed for any platform.

The announcement follows a trend of indie RPGs expanding their platform reach after early access periods. For context, other recent indie launches such as Finding Polka have also used staggered release strategies, as seen in this recent Steam launch for a hand-drawn adventure.

Gameplay Structure and Core Features

Set in a world fragmented by a catastrophic event, Fractured Worlds tasks players with exploring diverse environments, from medieval dungeons to steampunk cities and volcanic wastelands. The narrative is delivered through environmental storytelling and the recovery of lost memories, with players uncovering the causes behind the world's collapse. The game does not use a traditional class system; instead, it offers a classless progression model, allowing players to respec and adapt their builds around found legendary items and preferred playstyles.

Combat is described as deliberate and skill-based, with each weapon archetype-such as two-handed maces, spears and Aether-infused wands-offering distinct timing and rhythm. The game's boss encounters are designed to test player focus and precision, including battles against foes like the Treasure Golem, Ghostly Knight, Dragon and a Shadow version of the player character that mirrors their gear and abilities.

Multiplayer and Map Shard System

Fractured Worlds incorporates an emergent multiplayer system inspired by Souls-like invasions. Players may encounter others as realities overlap, with the option to cooperate, invade, share loot or set traps. The Map Shard system enables players to share segments of their world, spawning co-op instances with randomised modifiers that affect enemy behaviour and loot rewards. This approach is intended to create unpredictable, high-risk scenarios and organic player interactions across all supported platforms.

While the developer has outlined these multiplayer features, there is currently no independent evidence regarding cross-play support or the stability of online systems at launch. Details on matchmaking, anti-cheat measures and server infrastructure have not been disclosed.

What Remains Unconfirmed

At the time of announcement, Laser Guided Games has not released a launch trailer or provided hands-on access to the PlayStation 5 version. Technical specifications, such as target resolution, frame rate, and support for platform-specific features like haptic feedback or adaptive triggers, have not been detailed. It is also unclear whether the game will support cross-progression or offer any exclusive content on specific platforms. Further information may be released closer to launch as the game approaches its certification and release milestones.

Early access is a development model in which a game is made available to players before its full release, often in an unfinished or evolving state. This approach allows developers to gather feedback, test systems and refine content based on player input. However, features and performance can change significantly between early access and the final version, and not all planned content is guaranteed to appear at launch. Players considering early access titles should be aware that the experience may differ from the finished product, and technical or gameplay issues are more common during this phase.
