Spider-Man 2 Adds Tom Holland's Brand New Day Suit in Latest PS5 Update

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5 has received a new update introducing two additional Spidey suits, including Tom Holland's Brand New Day costume, alongside technical enhancements for PS5 Pro and a new Power Saver mode

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has received a fresh update on PlayStation 5, bringing two new suits for Peter Parker, including Tom Holland's latest look from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The patch, now live, also introduces technical improvements for PlayStation 5 Pro owners and adds a Power Saver mode designed to reduce energy consumption during play.

New Suits and Patch Details

The update, which brings the game to version 1.005.000, adds the "Fresh Start" suit-directly inspired by Tom Holland's appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Players can access this suit in-game immediately. Alongside it, the patch introduces the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls suit, expanding the range of cosmetic options for Peter Parker without additional cost.

These additions continue Insomniac Games' established pattern of post-launch support for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, with regular suit drops and feature updates since release. Both new suits are available to all players who have updated their game, with no requirement for paid content or special editions.

Technical Enhancements for PS5 Pro

For those playing on PlayStation 5 Pro, the update adds support for Enhanced PSSR (PlayStation Super Resolution), a technology intended to improve image quality and performance on compatible hardware. While the patch notes confirm the feature's inclusion, detailed performance analysis and direct comparisons with previous versions have not yet been published by independent testers.

Additionally, the Power Saver mode-first announced by Sony for select titles in 2025-can now be manually enabled in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This mode reduces the game's performance profile to lower the console's power draw, potentially offering modest savings on energy bills and a reduced environmental footprint. The feature is optional and must be activated by the player within the game's settings.

Context and Upcoming Releases

The timing of this update coincides with the imminent release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinemas, with previews beginning on 30 July and the official launch set for 31 July. Early press reactions to the film have been positive, and industry projections suggest it may achieve the largest box office opening of 2026 to date. Insomniac Games, meanwhile, is preparing for the release of Marvel's Wolverine, which is currently scheduled to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on 15 September.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 remains a PlayStation 5 exclusive, and all new content introduced in this patch is available at no extra charge to existing owners. The update does not alter the game's core progression or introduce new story content, focusing instead on cosmetic and technical enhancements.

Enhanced PSSR, now supported in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5 Pro, is Sony's proprietary upscaling technology designed to deliver higher image quality without the full performance cost of native high-resolution rendering. By reconstructing frames from lower internal resolutions, PSSR aims to provide sharper visuals and smoother performance, particularly on 4K displays. However, as with all upscaling solutions, the final image quality and frame-rate stability can vary depending on implementation and hardware. Independent analysis is typically required to determine the real-world impact of such features on gameplay experience.
