GTA V Mod Brings Path Tracing to Enhanced PC

KBase's free Lite edition brings path-traced lighting to GTA V Enhanced on PC. The Full version adds more environmental and vehicle effects through Patreon early access.

GTA V's familiar streets are getting a new look as attention shifts toward GTA VI. KBase's AuraV Enhanced adds path-traced lighting and volumetric clouds, with many of its headline effects available in a free Lite edition. The mod is built for GTA V Enhanced on PC. Techtroduce's overview said support for GTA V Legacy and FiveM was planned, but neither was available when the overview was published.

Lighting and atmosphere

AuraV changes more than the game's illumination. It rebuilds the sky and atmosphere, adds clouds with visible depth, and shifts the lighting as the sun moves through the day. At night, the Milky Way appears overhead. The mod does not replace GTA V's rendering engine; it extends the ray-tracing capabilities already in Enhanced.

Path tracing is the main draw. It changes how light and shadow appear, and KBase's trailer shows the effect across the game world. AuraV also adds ray-traced reflections. Techtroduce reports that players can adjust settings in-game through a menu opened with F10. Version information updates at launch.

The trailer shows the look, not the performance cost. AuraV requires an NVIDIA GeForce RTX card, but the available description names no minimum GPU model or VRAM requirement. It also provides no frame-rate figures or measurements of the mod's impact.

Rain, water and smoke

The weather effects reach into the details players see on the move. Wind shapes the ocean waves, while rain runs down glass. Spray rises from wet roads. AuraV also reworks lightning and heat haze.

After a burnout, tyre smoke hangs in the air. Vehicle exhaust catches the light. The Full edition adds water reflections and rainbows.

Character and vehicle lighting are part of the package. KBase says skin lighting responds to surrounding light, indoors or outside. The new lighting also applies to moving vehicles, from bikes to aircraft. In the Full edition, smoke effects cover exhaust and tyres, and the chase camera changes. The feature descriptions do not show how each effect behaves in every situation.

Lite and Full editions

Lite is free to download and requires no registration. It includes ray tracing for lighting and shadows, along with ray-traced reflections. The edition also brings a new atmosphere and improved skin lighting. A range of weather effects rounds out the free version.

The Full version was offered through Patreon early access. According to Techtroduce, it adds environmental effects such as wind-dependent waves and water reflections. Rainbows are included too. The vehicle additions cover road spray and smoke from exhaust or tyres, while the chase camera gets a modification.

That split determines what players can try without paying or subscribing. The free edition carries the core lighting and reflection effects; the Full version adds the features described above. Techtroduce says Story Mode installation involves extracting the files into the GTA V Enhanced folder beside the game executable. The available information states no further access conditions.

A visual second life

GTA V launched in September 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. KBase's trailer shows how AuraV changes familiar locations with its lighting and weather effects. NGB has also reported on a path-tracing experiment for Bloodborne.

Path tracing follows light through a scene to render lighting and shadows. The visual change alone does not show how smoothly a particular PC will run the mod. Volumetric clouds add depth to the sky, while rain, smoke and water effects alter other parts of the image. AuraV requires an NVIDIA GeForce RTX card, but no minimum model or independent performance test is available.
