Good Smile Company reveals IGNISPHERE and 2028 action RPG

Monochrome Corp. and Good Smile Company have announced IGNISPHERE, a new cross-media universe led by Takafumi Noma. Its first game, the action RPG DAWNGAZER, is planned for 2028.

Monochrome Corp. and Good Smile Company are building a new game universe around DAWNGAZER, an action RPG planned for 2028. The project is the first release under IGNISPHERE, a new fantasy IP led by Takafumi Noma through the newly named IGNISPHERE Studio. The project will also extend into merchandise and light novels.

A new world takes shape

IGNISPHERE and DAWNGAZER were publicly announced on 25 September 2026, the day Monochrome marked its 15th anniversary. Multiple reports, including Gematsu and Game*Spark, identify DAWNGAZER as the first game in the new IP.

The fictional setting will include multiple nations and races. IGNISPHERE Studio is the development team led by Noma. Good Smile Company is publishing DAWNGAZER and will support its marketing and merchandise, including figures.

Japanese coverage from Dengeki Online identifies Monochrome and Good Smile Company as co-announcers. Monochrome is handling development, while Good Smile Company is supporting publishing and promotion. Reports from Denfaminicogamer also describe the wider project as a cross-media universe rather than a single game release.

The announcement is official, but the project is still in development. The companies have not disclosed a price, a more specific launch date, a gameplay demonstration, or details about the action RPG's combat and progression systems.

Gematsu reports that the first public material is a teaser and world introduction, not gameplay footage. That matters because the material establishes the setting without showing how the finished game will play.

Noma has worked as both a programmer and a director. Japanese reports describe him as the director behind Unicorn Overlord, where he worked on story and character design while directing the game. He is now bringing that broad development role to IGNISPHERE.

The stated goal is to build one connected world with the same hands-on involvement across its main creative elements. It is being presented as more than a standalone game without wider context.

That approach gives the project a larger publishing plan from the start. Readers following how RPG properties expand beyond one release can also consult NGB's earlier coverage of a live RPG adding story and character content.

What the teaser confirms

The official IGNISPHERE X account launched alongside a teaser video for the universe. The footage is presented as a world teaser, not confirmed gameplay. The announcement does not identify how it was captured.

Because of that, the video cannot establish final visual quality, performance targets, enemy behaviour, mission structure, or the scale of DAWNGAZER.

The teaser's clearest purpose is to set the IP's tone and setting while development continues. Monochrome and Good Smile Company have confirmed that DAWNGAZER will be an action RPG. They have not said whether it will be single-player or multiplayer, whether it will use an open-world structure, or how its combat will work.

No controller footage or continuous playable sequence has been identified in the supplied material.

Music is the only production detail tied directly to the teaser. Yoshimi Kudo is composing for the game, and the video uses a piece he composed and arranged. KOCHO handled vocals and singer coordination. Vocals were provided by KOCHO SAK. and Maki Takimoto, while Wataru Mukai performs cello.

Platforms and expansion plans

DAWNGAZER is planned for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC through Steam, with a 2028 release target. The listed languages are English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

The announcement does not say whether all versions will launch on the same day or whether the target refers to a worldwide release.

Good Smile Company's role goes beyond publishing. It will serve as the contact point for IGNISPHERE merchandise. Multiple light novel projects are also being developed with KADOKAWA's Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint.

The companies have not announced publication dates, formats, story details, or whether the novels will arrive before the game.

This makes IGNISPHERE more than a standard first-game reveal, but it also leaves players waiting for basic information. A figure line and light novels may help a new property gain recognition. They do not show how DAWNGAZER will play or whether it is ready to launch.

The game remains the main test. The announcement has not reached that point yet.

The evidence still missing

The measurable information currently amounts to a small but clear set of commitments. The announcement date is 25 September 2026. The target release year is 2028. The game is listed for three platforms and supports four languages.

Monochrome Corp. is handling development through IGNISPHERE Studio. Good Smile Company is responsible for publishing, marketing support, and promotion. Dengeki Online's account also presents the first title as an action RPG whose world-building is central to the project.

Nothing in the announcement confirms a final release day, a price, editions, pre-order access, online requirements, cross-play, cross-progression, save transfer, accessibility options, or technical modes. There are no stated resolution or frame-rate targets, either. No independent performance testing has been reported.

A teaser released during development can set expectations. It cannot replace a playable build or a technical presentation.

The next useful evidence will need to be concrete: sustained gameplay footage, clear platform capture, and details about the systems that make DAWNGAZER an action RPG.

Until then, IGNISPHERE is an official project with a defined first game and a broad expansion plan. It is not yet a demonstrated player experience. That is the right distinction for an announcement built around world-building rather than mechanics.

A teaser is not a gameplay demonstration. A cinematic or edited sequence can show art direction and atmosphere without revealing how much control players have or how consistently a game performs during play.

For IGNISPHERE, that gap matters because DAWNGAZER is targeting three different platforms and its 2028 window leaves substantial development time. The announcement draws attention through its game publishing, merchandise, and light novel plans. The project's real credibility will depend on playable evidence and specific technical information, not on the size of its universe.
