Future Games Show at gamescom 2026 Reveals Over 40 Upcoming Titles

Future Games Show at gamescom 2026 delivered more than 40 game reveals, including 12 world premieres, new trailers, and platform updates for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and more, with key release dates and gameplay details

Future Games Show at gamescom 2026 aired on 26 August, hosted by Nick Apostolides and Angela Sant'Albano, and delivered a packed schedule of announcements, trailers and developer insights. The showcase highlighted over 40 games, with 12 world premieres and a mix of cinematic and gameplay footage. FGS Live From gamescom followed with additional reveals and updates, offering a comprehensive look at the upcoming release calendar across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and emerging platforms.

Major Reveals and World Premieres

The event opened with Worms Galactic Tactics, a new turn-based strategy entry for PC and consoles set for 2027, alongside confirmation that a mainline Worms game is also in development. Capcom's Onimusha: Way of the Sword received a new cinematic trailer and gameplay details, with a release date of 4 September for PC and consoles. Other notable premieres included Greak 2: Alliance of the Storms, a cooperative metroidvania targeting 2027, and Alkimya: House of Wisdom, an alchemical action-adventure coming soon to PC and PlayStation.

FGS Live From gamescom added further world premieres such as Matelotes, a cartoon longship adventure heading to Steam Early Access in 2027, and Prospera, an open-world city-building simulator. The show also featured genre variety, from the soulslike FPS DIOXIDE to the narrative-driven platformer APART, and the horror-tinged Sweetheart, billed as a breakup simulator for 2027.

Release Dates, Platforms and Gameplay Details

Several games received confirmed release dates and platform details. The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival launches 18 September on PC and consoles, while STAR WARS: Galactic Racer™ is set for 6 October. Serious Sam: Shatterverse, a roguelite shooter, is scheduled for 31 August 2026, and Graveyard Keeper 2 lands on 22 September. PixelJunk Monsters 3 will soon begin a private playtest on Steam, and AION 2's launch-scale test is set for 17-18 September ahead of its 5 October PC release.

Other highlights included Construction Simulator: Evolution, which showcased licensed vehicles and destructible environments, and Star Trek: Outposts Unknown, a Starfleet city builder launching on PC on 20 October. The showcase also confirmed that The Sinking City 2, already available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. For those following Nintendo's platform, Curve Games' recent Wobbly Life Switch 2 release demonstrates the growing support for the new hardware.

Trailers, Technical Features and Platform Expansion

Gameplay and cinematic trailers were central to the event, with developers offering closer looks at mechanics, art direction and technical ambitions. SPINE - This is Gun Fu highlighted kinetic combat in a cyberpunk setting, while Everwind, already out on PC, was confirmed for a 2027 console release. Guns of Eschaton, developed by Viktor Antonov, revealed its apocalyptic Western world, and Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster introduced Skaven stealth gameplay for 2027.

FGS Live From gamescom also spotlighted technical collaborations, such as Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2's partnership with composer Mick Gordon, and Nivalis Nights' cyberpunk slice-of-life simulation, set for PC in September 2026. The event covered a broad spectrum of genres, from the physics-driven Shoe It All! to the atmospheric submarine-salvage adventure Hoarder, both targeting 2026-2027 launches.

What Remains Unconfirmed

While many games received release windows or dates, some projects remain without firm timing or platform specifics. Several titles, including Bye Bye Bonnie, DNA NEMESIS, and Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern, are listed as "coming soon" or targeting early 2027, but lack precise launch details. Not all trailers represented final gameplay, with some footage described as cinematic or in-engine, and platform parity for certain games has yet to be clarified.

FGS Best Of gamescom is scheduled for 30 August, promising further gameplay demos, developer interviews and a recap of the week's biggest announcements, including METRO 2039, Gears of War: E-Day and Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. The event will be streamed internationally across major platforms and Chinese services, with coverage concluding at 1am CST on 31 August.

When evaluating showcase announcements, it's important to distinguish between cinematic trailers, in-engine demonstrations and actual gameplay footage. Cinematic trailers are often pre-rendered and may not reflect the final experience, while in-engine footage can vary in fidelity and interactivity. Only direct gameplay capture provides a reliable indication of how a game will play at launch, and even then, performance and features may change before release. Players should look for clear platform confirmation, release dates and independent technical analysis before making purchasing decisions.
