The Spooky Baboon update turns nearby player voices into a source of danger. It also brings a timed candy hunt and seasonal gear to Meta Quest.

In Scary Baboon, proximity chat makes distance part of every encounter. A voice from the next corridor can sound like a teammate, even when the Mimic is the one speaking.

A monster that copies voices

The Mimic first looks like an ordinary monster. It attacks when players approach, then runs from anyone nearby. By repeating speech it has heard, the creature makes familiar voices harder to trust around a corner. Scary Baboon already relies on proximity chat to make encounters unpredictable, and the new monster turns that feature into a threat.

Other additions carry the deception further. Mimic Soda copies the name and cosmetics of the nearest player for one minute. The Spooky Board listens to nearby players and answers yes or no. It can also occasionally summon a ghost that jumpscares everyone standing close.

The Scary Sound Panel gives players four sounds to use for pranks. NGB has separately covered Tomb Raider 30th-anniversary controllers arriving in Europe. That hardware story is a different kind of update: Spooky Baboon changes what players hear through the headset.

A shared Halloween challenge

Trick or Treat gives the full lobby one objective: find 50 pieces of candy across the map in eight minutes. Some are hidden in Dark Areas, where monsters remain a threat. Collect them all and every player can claim a Halloween Egg at the event terminal.

The Lab gets its Halloween theme back. Meatman receives a Pumpkin skin and a redesigned arena. BlackGooGoo gets a Halloween appearance, while Baboo returns. The update is available now on Meta Quest. The supplied announcement gives no end date for the seasonal event or the limited Tech Tree.

Limited gear and pet powers

Scary Baboon's first limited Tech Tree is available only during Spooky Baboon. Its seasonal weapons include the Pumpkin Launcher and Pumpkin Bomb. The Pumpkin Sword and Ghost Dagger are also available, along with the Spider Slingshot and Candy Corn Pistol. The lineup includes a Slapping Bat as well.

For movement, the Web Launcher works as a two-shot grapple or can web monsters. Bat Wings give players four flaps. Ghost Soda makes movement floatier and hides the player from monsters.

The update adds around 15 Tech Web items and around 12 gold cosmetics. New pets arrive alongside new Ultimates. Spirit Surge turns a pet into a rocket-gauntlet-style device: holding the trigger pulls the player in the direction of their arm, enabling flight around the map and attacks on enemies. A Mythic version adds pink and white visual effects.

The redesigned Halloween shop is another addition. Halloween Eggs return, and a limited-time Death Costume Bundle includes a Scythe and 1,000 Gold.

Earlier updates included Dreamcore and Fight Back. Toxic and Pets also arrived before Spooky Baboon, as did the Bosses Update. Scary Baboon has reached millions of players. It holds a 4.7-star rating on Meta Quest, and its Discord community has more than 220,000 members.

Independent search results available for this report did not separately confirm the Mimic or Mimic Soda. They also did not verify the Spooky Board, Trick or Treat or the other specific mechanics described here. The searches found no later official status update, patch or developer response.

VR.org's Halloween 2026 events calendar covers other VR events, but does not substantiate Scary Baboon's update. Search results mentioning Mimics in other games concern those games, not Scary Baboon.

Separately, Pro Game Guides reported that Scary Baboon had no active codes as of October 10, 2026, and no code-redemption system. That report concerns codes and does not independently verify the Halloween update.
