Rayman Legends Retold lists an RTX 4080 for 4K at 60 frames per second with Quality upscaling. The game is also due on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 3, 2026.
Rayman Legends Retold asks PC players to use an RTX 4080 for 4K at 60 frames per second with Quality upscaling. That is a striking requirement for a 2D platformer that is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Ubisoft has confirmed the game for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The PC version will be available through Ubisoft Store, Steam and Epic Games Store.
The PC requirement
The specification comes from a new official infographic, not an independent performance test. It sets the 4K target at the Ultra preset with Quality upscaling. Ubisoft recommends either an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 with 16GB of memory or an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX with 24GB. The Outer Haven independently summarized the figures from Ubisoft's published requirements table.
The processor requirement is much lower. The 4K listing names an Intel Core i5-9400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600. It also calls for 16GB of dual-channel RAM and 33GB of storage. Windows 11 is required for the recommended resolution targets, while the minimum specification supports Windows 10 64-bit. The 33GB SSD requirement appears across all tiers. The 16GB dual-channel memory figure applies to the recommended presets in the published summary.
The lower targets show a similar pattern. The recommended 1080p specification uses an RTX 3070 for 60 frames per second at the High preset with Quality upscaling. The 1440p listing also recommends an RTX 3070 with the same frame-rate and upscaling targets.
What the table shows
The full GPU ladder starts with a GTX 1660, Radeon RX 5500 XT or Intel Arc A580 for 1080p at 60 frames per second on Low. The recommended 1080p tier moves to an RTX 3070, Radeon RX 5700 or Intel Arc A750. At 1440p, the table lists an RTX 3070, RX 6750 XT or Arc B580. The 4K tier then jumps to an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX.
That jump in graphics hardware is the main issue. The published targets use upscaling at every listed resolution. The GPUs therefore do not need to render every displayed pixel at its native resolution. The supplied material also does not say whether ray tracing is required for those presets. Ubisoft's available materials confirm the requirements and the use of Quality upscaling, but they do not explain why the 4K recommendations reach RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XTX level.
The contrast is sharper when compared with an earlier Gears analysis. Gears of War: E-Day was reported with an RTX 5070 Ti target for 4K at 60 frames per second. Rayman Legends Retold currently lists a more demanding GPU despite its very different 2D platforming format.
Switch 2 complicates the picture
Rayman Legends Retold is also launching on Nintendo Switch 2, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Ubisoft's official game page confirms the multi-platform release. That makes the unusually high PC 4K threshold more noticeable beside the announced console launch. The official materials list December 3, 2026 as the release date.
Ubisoft has promoted the project with more than a requirements graphic. Its official overview trailer and accessibility material discuss new traversal possibilities, hidden secrets and a cinematic story. The material shows that Retold is being promoted through active official announcements rather than only unofficial reports. It does not explain how the console versions' visual targets compare with the PC presets.
This does not prove that the PC version is poorly optimized. Different versions can use different rendering settings. A PC requirement may also be built around a specific visual preset rather than the minimum hardware needed to run the game. The available table still offers no explanation for why the 1080p and 1440p NVIDIA recommendations stay at RTX 3070 level while the 4K tier rises to RTX 4080.
There is no independent test showing frame pacing, internal resolution, ray-tracing settings or actual frame-rate behavior. The figures describe official targets, not measured results. A listed target of 60 frames per second is not proof of a stable 60fps experience in every scene.
Room for revision
Rayman Legends Retold is due to launch on December 3, 2026. That is the date shown in Ubisoft's official materials from September 22 and 23, rather than the earlier date repeated in some unofficial summaries. The available announcements do not say whether the requirements are final or may change before launch.
The most useful update would explain the settings behind each tier. Players need to know whether ray tracing is enabled by default, whether Quality upscaling is compulsory and how the RTX 4080 recommendation relates to the visual modes on the console versions. Without those details, the hardware table is difficult to use as a buying guide.
For now, the official numbers should be treated as a warning rather than a final technical verdict. An RTX 4080 requirement for a 4K target is not automatically unreasonable if the game uses expensive ray-traced effects. The combination of 2D platforming, Quality upscaling and a Switch 2 release still makes the specification look excessive. Unless later documentation explains the rendering demands or lowers the targets, Rayman Legends Retold will arrive with a PC requirement that deserves more scrutiny than the genre would normally suggest.
Upscaling means that a game renders internally below its output resolution and reconstructs the final image. That reduces the workload compared with native rendering. Ray tracing can still use substantial GPU resources when upscaling is enabled, especially if reflections or lighting effects are active. A frame-rate target describes the intended result, not a measured guarantee. Independent testing will be needed to show whether these requirements reflect real performance or a cautious launch specification.
