Plungeez Release Date Set for August 2026 on All Major Platforms

Team Zeroth's debut title Plungeez, a 16-bit metroidvania puzzle-platformer, is launching on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch on 13 August 2026, with a demo already available on Steam and a launch discount confirmed

Plungeez, the first console and PC release from Brazilian indie studio Team Zeroth, has been officially scheduled for launch on 13 August 2026. The game will be available on PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Plungeez positions itself as a 2D metroidvania puzzle-platformer, but with a notable twist: there is no combat. Instead, players are tasked with solving environmental puzzles and navigating a non-linear underground world inspired by the historic centre of Salvador, Bahia.

Confirmed Release and Pricing

The release date and platform line-up were confirmed by Team Zeroth, with the game set to launch simultaneously across all listed platforms. Plungeez will be priced at USD 9.99 in the United States and R$ 29.99 in Brazil, with a 15% launch discount available for the first week after release. A playable demo is already accessible on Steam, allowing PC players to try the game ahead of launch. There is no mention of early access or staggered release between platforms, and no indication of physical editions at this stage.

Players will take on the role of Bôni, a city water treatment worker who becomes trapped in a forgotten subterranean maze beneath Salvador. The core gameplay revolves around logic-based progression, with players using tools such as plungers, a wrench, and a diving suit to overcome obstacles, repair pipes, and unlock new areas. The game's structure is designed around exploration and spatial reasoning, with no combat or time pressure, and progression is tied to the acquisition of new tools that open up further sections of the labyrinth.

Gameplay Structure and Unique Features

Plungeez distinguishes itself from traditional metroidvanias by removing combat entirely, focusing instead on environmental puzzles and exploration. The main mechanic involves using two plungers to stick to walls and traverse the underground environment, while other tools gradually expand the player's movement and puzzle-solving options. The world is interconnected, with shortcuts and secret passages, and the level design is inspired by the real-world architecture of Salvador's historic centre.

Key features include logic-based challenges, atmospheric pixel art, and a progression system that rewards curiosity and observation over brute force. The absence of combat means that players must rely on their perception and problem-solving skills to advance. The game's narrative is rooted in Brazilian culture, with localisation efforts aiming to preserve regional expressions and adapt them for an international audience. English localisation reportedly draws on Black English to reflect the original's tone and character.

Development Background and Cultural Context

Team Zeroth, based in Salvador, Bahia, is a three-person studio comprising Felipe Sousa (game design and illustration), Felipe Nanni (programming and prototyping), and Tharcísio Vaz (audio and composition). Plungeez is their first title for modern consoles and PC, and the project has been selected as a Brazilian highlight for the Panorama Brasil at Gamescom Latam 2025. The game's premise playfully references the history of platformers by featuring a plumber protagonist who actually performs plumbing tasks, in contrast to the genre's most famous example.

The publisher, QUByte Interactive, is Latin America's largest independent games publisher and is responsible for bringing Plungeez to consoles. The game's setting and narrative are closely tied to Salvador's underground infrastructure, with players exploring flooded chambers, ancient mechanisms, and forgotten sewers. The design aims to authentically represent Bahian culture and regional identity within a pixel-art framework.

Plungeez's official launch is scheduled for 13 August 2026 on PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The confirmed price is USD 9.99 or R$ 29.99, with a 15% discount for the first seven days. A demo is currently available on Steam, but there is no word on console demos or physical editions. The game will be available as a digital download on all platforms at launch.

What Non-Linear Progression Means for Players

Non-linear progression in metroidvania games refers to a structure where players are free to explore interconnected areas in any order, with access to new regions gated by the acquisition of specific tools or abilities. In Plungeez, this means that players will not follow a single path but will instead revisit earlier locations as they unlock new equipment, discovering shortcuts and secrets that were previously inaccessible. This design encourages experimentation and rewards players who pay close attention to their environment, as progress is determined by logic and observation rather than combat or levelling up. The absence of combat further shifts the focus onto puzzle-solving and exploration, making spatial reasoning and curiosity the primary drivers of advancement.
