Ryan Laley Games has confirmed that Mimic, a social-deduction survival horror game, will enter Early Access on Steam and Epic Games Store for Windows PC on 27 October 2026, with console versions planned for 2027
Ryan Laley Games has officially announced that Mimic, its upcoming online social-deduction horror game, will launch in Early Access for Windows PC on 27 October 2026. The game will be available via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions scheduled for release in 2027 following the Early Access period. Mimic aims to blend the tension of classic single-player horror with the unpredictability of multiplayer social deduction, placing players aboard a failing spacecraft where trust is in short supply and danger can take any form-including that of a fellow survivor.
Gameplay Structure and Roles
Mimic is designed for five players in public matchmaking, with support for up to ten in private lobbies. Each match assigns secret roles, including regular crew members, a corporate agent with hidden objectives, and the titular mimic-an alien entity capable of impersonating any player. Crew members must repair the ship and identify the threat before oxygen runs out, while the mimic's goal is to blend in and eliminate the others. The agent, meanwhile, pursues a private agenda that may conflict with the group's survival.
Players have no access to weapons and must rely on teamwork, deduction, and environmental manipulation to survive. A roaming NPC android adds a further layer of threat, hunting all organic life and capable of being directed by player votes to target specific individuals. When eliminated, players return as Omens-ghostly presences able to sabotage the environment and influence the outcome even after death.
Customisation, Streaming, and Replayability
Mimic offers a range of customisation options, particularly in private lobbies, where hosts can modify objectives, hazards, enemy behaviour, and core rules to create unique scenarios. The game also integrates interactive streaming features, allowing Twitch viewers to influence the android's actions in real time, potentially altering the course of a match and creating unpredictable moments for both players and audiences.
Replayability is a central focus, with dynamic role assignments and variable objectives ensuring that no two sessions play out identically. The Early Access launch will include a feature-rich multiplayer experience, with plans for additional maps, roles, progression systems, and narrative content to be added based on player feedback during the Early Access phase.
Release Timing and Platform Details
Mimic's Early Access release is set for 27 October 2026 on Windows PC, accessible through both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game will not be available on consoles at launch; PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are planned for 2027, following the completion of the Early Access period. Players can wishlist the game now, but pricing and specific system requirements have not yet been disclosed. The developer, Ryan Laley Games, was founded in 2023 and is self-publishing Mimic, building on a background in game development education and community engagement.
For those interested in other atmospheric multiplayer experiences, Shadowlight and Phoenix Games recently announced Kill the Shadow, a detective RPG set for release on Steam this August. Details on its narrative-driven gameplay can be found in our coverage of Kill the Shadow's upcoming launch.
Early Access is a release model where a game is made available to the public before its full commercial launch, allowing developers to gather feedback and iterate on features in response to real player behaviour. While this approach can accelerate development and foster community involvement, it also means that features, balance, and stability may change significantly before the final release. Players should be aware that Early Access titles are not considered finished products and may lack some planned content or polish at launch.
