Xbox is testing Mythic Achievements with Insiders. The new reward appears when players complete every original Achievement in a game, with progress tools and completed-game tracking added alongside it.

Xbox has added the completion reward its achievement system has lacked for almost two decades. Microsoft opened early access to Mythic Achievements for Xbox Insiders on 29 September 2026. Xbox News called the feature "one of our most player-requested features." A Mythic Achievement unlocks when a player completes every original Achievement in a game.

The missing reward

The system is Xbox's direct answer to PlayStation's Platinum Trophies. It gives players another milestone after they finish the ordinary list. A completed set now gets its own status instead of ending with the last individual task.

The gap was hard to miss because Xbox Achievements arrived first. The system launched with Xbox 360 on 22 November 2005. PlayStation Trophies followed with PS3 firmware 2.40 on 2 July 2008. Platinum Trophies were part of Sony's original Trophy design and appeared in games a month after launch. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has been identified as the first title to use them. Reuters has also reported on the historical launch of PlayStation Trophies.

That left almost twenty years between Platinum Trophies and Mythic Achievements. Xbox's answer is late, but it fixes a clear weakness in the platform's long-running completion system. It is more than another profile statistic.

Progress carries forward

The most useful detail is that Mythic Achievements count progress made since the Xbox 360 era. Players who have already completed every original Achievement in a game may find the Mythic reward waiting the next time they sign in. They will not need to replay the game or earn the existing objectives again.

Microsoft says the system is retroactive. A Mythic Achievement can appear automatically for a game that was already completed, including older Xbox 360-era titles.

Xbox is also putting a progress bar at the top of each game's Achievement list. It shows how close the player is to Mythic status. New filters separate original Achievements from add-on content and show which base objectives are still unfinished. Downloadable content and later updates do not need to be completed for the Mythic reward. Once earned, the status stays attached to the game permanently.

Profiles are being reorganised around a new Gaming tab. It shows Achievements, tracks progress toward the next Gamerscore milestone badge and lists related gaming metrics and completed games. Mythic Achievements have a distinctive heroic frame, making them easier to spot. Friends' Gaming tabs also show which games they have completed to Mythic status.

A feature with history

The timing comes during a wider discussion about where major games and services appear, as discussed in an earlier platform report. Mythic Achievements are a smaller change, but they work inside the account system players use across generations of Xbox hardware.

For completionists, the benefit is simple. Older progress counts. The remaining work is easier to find. Finished games are more visible to friends. Xbox also gets a clearer endpoint for Achievements, which may give players more reason to return to games that are nearly complete.

There is one immediate limit. Mythic Achievements are currently restricted to Xbox Insiders. Microsoft plans to release them to the wider public at a later date, but it has not provided a public rollout date. The Xbox News announcement says early access began "starting today" for members of the Insider program on 29 September.

An Achievement is an individual challenge recorded against a game. Mythic status sits above that list as a completion marker. The new reward does not replace existing Achievements or change their requirements. It recognises that every original objective has been completed.

Xbox should have offered this structure years ago. Still, automatic tracking of older progress and a permanent completion status give the eventual public release more substance than a simple copy of PlayStation's system.
