Hela of Mice & Magic release date set for December on all major platforms

Windup Games and Knights Peak have locked in 1 December 2026 for the global release of Hela of Mice & Magic on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, with a collector's Harmony Edition available in physical stores

Players looking for a new open-world adventure now have a firm date to mark: Hela: of Mice & Magic will launch worldwide on 1 December 2026, arriving simultaneously on Nintendo Switch™ 2, PlayStation®5, XBOX Series X, XBOX Series S and PC. The announcement comes with confirmation of both digital and physical editions, including a limited Harmony Edition for collectors.

Release Date and Platform Breakdown

Windup Games and publisher Knights Peak have confirmed that Hela: of Mice & Magic will be available digitally across all platforms, with physical copies-specifically the Harmony Edition-restricted to Nintendo Switch™ 2, PlayStation®5 and XBOX Series X. Players on XBOX Series S and PC will have access to digital versions only. The release is scheduled for 1 December 2026, with no indication of regional delays or staggered launches.

The Harmony Edition is positioned as a premium collector's package, including the game disc or cartridge, a digital soundtrack composed by Frida Johansson and Henrik Oja, a 48-page softcover art book featuring concept art and development sketches, a reversible poster with the in-game map, and a set of exclusive stickers. This edition will be available only through physical retail channels and is not expected to see a reprint after launch.

Trailer and Gameplay Details

Alongside the release date, a new CGI story trailer has been published, offering a first look at the world and tone of Hela: of Mice & Magic. The footage is cinematic rather than direct gameplay, focusing on the game's folklore-inspired setting and the relationship between the protagonist mouse and a protective witch. The trailer sets an emotional tone but does not provide evidence of final gameplay systems or performance.

According to the official description, players will control a small, agile mouse tasked with assisting a witch in caring for a magical landscape. Exploration will span forests, meadows, wetlands and underground burrows, with the witch providing a magical backpack to unlock new traversal and interaction options. The game is described as playable solo or cooperatively, but no footage of co-op play or interface has been shown to date.

Edition Features and Collector's Content

The Harmony Edition's inclusion of a digital soundtrack and art book is consistent with recent collector's releases, but the addition of a reversible map poster and sticker set is a notable attempt to appeal to dedicated fans. The soundtrack credits Frida Johansson and Henrik Oja, both of whom have prior experience in atmospheric game scores, though no tracklist or sample tracks have been released. The art book promises previously unseen concept material, but its final content remains unverified until retail copies ship.

Physical Harmony Editions will be available for Nintendo Switch™ 2, PlayStation®5 and XBOX Series X only, with no mention of a PC or XBOX Series S physical release. This mirrors the approach seen in other recent launches, where digital-only platforms are excluded from collector's packaging. For context, a similar split between digital and physical editions was reported earlier for Rain World Anthology Edition, reflecting a wider industry trend.

What Remains Unconfirmed

While the release date and edition structure are now official, several key details remain unaddressed. No gameplay footage has been released, and the CGI trailer does not clarify how the game will perform on each platform. There is no information on frame-rate targets, resolution modes, or platform-specific features such as haptic feedback or adaptive triggers. Pricing for both the standard and Harmony Edition has not been disclosed, and pre-order timing is yet to be announced. It is also unclear whether the game will require an online connection for co-op play or if offline local co-op will be supported.

With the launch still several months away, further technical and gameplay details are likely to emerge as the release approaches. For now, players have confirmation of the date, platforms and collector's content, but must wait for evidence of how Hela: of Mice & Magic will actually play and perform on each system. The lack of gameplay footage at this stage is notable, and players should remain cautious about assuming final quality based solely on cinematic material.

Collector's editions in gaming often create a split between digital and physical access, with premium content such as art books, soundtracks and posters reserved for boxed releases. This approach can drive early sales and appeal to dedicated fans, but it also means that players on digital-only platforms may miss out on exclusive extras. As digital distribution continues to dominate, the role of physical collector's editions is increasingly focused on tangible memorabilia rather than in-game content, and players should weigh the value of these extras against the core experience.
