God of War Laufey Pre-Orders Open With Faye's Serpent Bow Reveal

Santa Monica Studio has revealed Faye's Serpent Bow and confirmed that God of War Laufey pre-orders will open on September 29 at 10:00 AM local time. The game launches on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027.

Faye enters God of War Laufey with a combat system built around movement and ranged pressure, not Kratos' familiar close-range brutality. Santa Monica Studio has revealed the Serpent Bow and confirmed that pre-orders open on September 29 at 10:00 AM local time. The official PlayStation Blog shared the pre-order details, Digital Deluxe Edition and new Faye combat footage in the same update. This came directly from the publisher, not from a leak or third-party report.

Pre-orders and editions

God of War Laufey is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The pre-order package includes the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance and an in-game resource pack. The official PlayStation Blog says these items are not immediate unlocks. Players receive them as they move through the story. Santa Monica Studio has not announced pricing for either available edition. The studio says those details will arrive when pre-orders go live.

The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, the Dark Alchemy Blade, the Dark Alchemy Bow Scales and the Dark Alchemy Catalyst. It also includes another in-game resource pack, a digital mini artbook and the official digital soundtrack. The cosmetic and gameplay-related items are not immediate unlocks. Every in-game item in the pre-order and Digital Deluxe packages becomes available through story progression.

That matters to buyers who expect bonus equipment at the start of the campaign. The announcement confirms what each package contains, but it does not say how soon players can earn the items or how the resource packs affect progression. It also gives no exact statistical values or abilities for the included equipment.

Faye fights differently

The Serpent Bow is an enchanted weapon that changes shape like a snake. It moves from a dormant state to a ready state almost instantly. Santa Monica Studio says it can move quickly into combat and weave arrows into sword combinations. The bow is not meant to function only as a long-range tool.

Its two firing methods create different combat rhythms. A full aim press puts Faye into a precision stance. She gains more accurate targeting and a longer draw distance. She can aim at specific enemy body parts to impair them and build a volley of up to five arrows. The official material presents this as a clear contrast with Kratos' established close-range combat model.

A half aim press keeps Faye moving while she fires a cluster of arrows at close range. Santa Monica Studio presents this hip-fire option as a way to deal heavy damage to nearby enemies, juggle airborne targets and extend combos. The bow also has rapid-fire, explosive and multi-target arrows.

Faye is not simply Kratos with another weapon. Her revealed toolkit ties spacing, accuracy and combo timing together. The bow supports both melee attacks and distance control. The available information describes the intended mechanics, but it does not show how they work across the full game.

Gear shapes the arsenal

Faye's customisation uses three equipment categories. Scales change the Serpent Bow's appearance and specialisation. Blades customise an elemental part of her sword. Catalysts are artefacts that channel the magic of the Everywhen, which Santa Monica Studio describes as the afterlife of the gods.

Armour sets also add gameplay perks and statistical effects alongside their visual changes. On paper, that makes the edition bonuses more than cosmetic extras. The studio has not given the exact values or abilities for each item.

Pre-orders begin on September 29 at 10:00 AM local time. The PlayStation 5 release follows on February 16, 2027. Pricing has not been confirmed, and Santa Monica Studio says more information will be shared in the coming weeks. The PlayStation Blog announcement sets out these dates as the publisher's official schedule.

What players know

The clearest information so far is a combat outline, not a full technical demonstration. The announcement explains how Faye's bow behaves, lists its arrow types, describes the gear systems and confirms story-based unlocks. It says nothing about resolution, frame rate, loading performance, accessibility options or other PlayStation 5 features.

It also does not show whether every combat system will be available in the opening hours. The role of the Everywhen in exploration and progression remains unclear. Those gaps are normal for a pre-release reveal, but they limit what can be judged now. The footage and descriptions show the direction of the game without proving its final balance or responsiveness.

Santa Monica Studio's main choice is to give Faye a combat identity that differs mechanically from Kratos' rather than making her a smaller version of the same character. The Serpent Bow's half-aim and full-aim modes give that separation a clear foundation. Until pricing and more gameplay details arrive, God of War Laufey has a specific combat premise, but its value as a purchase cannot yet be judged in full.

In an action game, a combo system depends on timing and feedback. The announced mechanics explain what Faye can attempt, but not how quickly inputs register or how reliably enemies respond. Those details require broader gameplay evidence rather than a feature list. For now, the pre-order decision rests on the confirmed edition contents and the February 16, 2027 release date. The quality of the combat remains an open question.
