Beast of Reincarnation Plans Tougher Combat Beyond Hard Mode

Game Freak has outlined several changes for Beast of Reincarnation after player feedback. The plans include tougher difficulty settings, new boss attack patterns and a shorter route through New Game Plus.

Beast of Reincarnation is now available. Its Steam listing gives August 3, 2026 as the release date, names GAME FREAK inc. as the developer and Fictions as the publisher. The action RPG is set to become tougher and more varied as the two companies continue making changes based on player feedback. The work goes beyond adding another difficulty setting. It also targets repeated boss fights and the slowest parts of New Game Plus.

The game is confirmed for PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Release coverage also mentions Game Pass support. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026 and follows Emma and her dog Ku. The official Steam description and TGS 2026 coverage describe a combat system that mixes real-time and turn-based play. That makes the planned changes relevant to both fast action and careful battle decisions.

Boss fights need more variety

The biggest planned change is a revision of attack patterns for similar boss types. The game can currently reuse bosses without giving each encounter enough mechanical difference. As a result, repeat fights can feel more predictable than they should.

That matters because Beast of Reincarnation already combines action and turn-based elements with considerable build depth. Different movesets could give those systems more room to matter. Players would need to adapt instead of using the same response whenever a familiar boss returns.

Game Freak has not said how large the changes will be or whether individual bosses will get entirely new phases. The developer has confirmed only that attack patterns for similar boss types are being revised. The full scale of the redesign is still unknown.

Two new difficulty steps

The plan also includes a new difficulty above Hard and a separate higher difficulty for New Game +. These options should give experienced players a reason to return after finishing the main progression, especially if the revised boss behaviour arrives at the same time.

The two changes serve different purposes. A level beyond Hard would change the standard challenge structure. The separate New Game + option suggests that replay progression will get its own tuning instead of simply using the existing settings.

Game Freak has not given either option a name or detailed rules. The developer has not said whether the modes will change enemy damage, health, attack timing or other combat variables. Their effect cannot yet be judged from the announcement alone. GamingBolt and Wccftech have also reported the planned higher difficulty options without explaining how they will work.

New Game Plus gets shorter

One of the clearest quality-of-life changes is a planned shortcut through New Game +. After clearing Great Wall Terraces Zone, players will be able to skip Pilgrim's Zone, Matsukawa Colony Zone and Fuji Frontier Zone. Later runs should become quicker.

This change targets repetition. Those three areas currently stand between the player and later content during a replay. Letting players bypass them should make build testing less time-consuming, while Great Wall Terraces Zone will still need to be cleared first.

Nothing indicates that these areas will be removed from the first playthrough. The plan applies to New Game + after the specified point. It is a replay shortcut, not a change to the base campaign.

Patch 1.0.12 sets the direction

The roadmap comes alongside patch 1.0.12. Among its other changes, the update makes almost all story and event cutscenes skippable. It does not add the planned combat overhaul or the new difficulty options. Instead, it shows the current support cycle as Game Freak and Fictions continue work on larger changes.

Game Freak said it was improving the game after player complaints and valuable feedback. The statement is broad, but the details point to four specific areas: faster New Game + progression, revised attack patterns, a difficulty level beyond Hard and a tougher New Game + mode.

According to Game*Spark, post-launch support includes updates 1.0.10 and 1.0.12, along with more planned patches. That points to continuing quality-of-life support rather than one corrective release. Handheld Guru and Game*Spark also report PC-specific work in the relevant update, including cutscene skipping, changes to behaviour and text display, and frame-generation corrections for different GPUs.

Steam remains the main source for the game's current release status. Wccftech reports that Game Freak plans to keep improving the game based on feedback. That approach places Beast of Reincarnation in the same post-launch discussion as Crimson Desert, whose continued improvements have drawn attention. NGB has also covered that support model in an earlier update. The linked report concerns a different game and does not show that the two studios follow the same production plan.

Beast of Reincarnation already has a strong mechanical base despite its slow opening and technical shortcomings. Repeated bosses and friction during replays weaken the parts most likely to keep players interested. The announced changes target those problems directly. If Game Freak and Fictions deliver genuinely different attack patterns and a meaningful difficulty beyond Hard, the game could give players a stronger reason to return instead of simply raising a few numbers.

A difficulty option is not only a menu label. A higher setting can increase damage or enemy health, but deeper combat comes from changes that demand different timing, positioning and build choices. New attack patterns would change how players read encounters. The New Game + skips would cut repetition without suggesting that the underlying campaign has been rebuilt.
