Ownership and Funding

Learn who owns and publishes Next-Gen Gaming Blog, how the site is funded and how commercial activity is separated from editorial decisions.

Next-Gen Gaming Blog is currently owned and published by Chris Slate.

This page describes NGB’s current ownership, revenue sources and the separation between commercial activity and editorial decisions.

Ownership

Chris Slate is the current Owner, Publisher and Editor of Next-Gen Gaming Blog and leads the publication following its 2026 relaunch.

The publication operates under the Next-Gen Gaming Blog name. No parent publisher, publishing network, investor or other organisation is identified as the current owner.

Current ownership and publishing responsibility are separate from the longer history of the site, which began in 2011.

Chris Slate’s current role reflects the editorial structure introduced with the 2026 relaunch and does not imply that he held the same position throughout NGB’s earlier history.

Historical Context

Next-Gen Gaming Blog was founded in 2011 and developed within the UK gaming-blog scene, covering games, platforms, releases and the wider player experience.

Its history includes connections with WENB, Winning Eleven Blog, Kitana Media Network and the later Next Gen Base identity as the publication and related gaming-media projects evolved.

In 2026, NGB was relaunched under a new editorial team as the next stage in the development of the existing publication. The relaunch preserved the site’s established history, brand and core gaming direction while introducing a new editorial structure and updated publishing standards.

The site therefore retains 2011 as its founding year. The 2026 relaunch marks the beginning of the current editorial stage and does not imply that today’s ownership or team held the same roles throughout the publication’s earlier history.

Historical relationships described here do not represent current ownership, investment or commercial partnerships unless a present relationship is specifically identified.

Current Funding Model

NGB may generate revenue through display advertising, including programmatic advertising delivered through Google AdSense or related Google advertising services.

The amount and source of advertising may vary according to visitor location, consent settings, available campaigns and the advertising platform.

Advertising revenue supports the operation of the publication. Advertisers do not receive approval rights over unrelated editorial coverage, reviews, rankings or corrections.

Direct Advertising

NGB may consider direct advertising proposals relevant to games, gaming platforms and gaming hardware.

A direct advertising relationship does not provide an advertiser with control over unrelated editorial work.

Advertising does not guarantee a review, recommendation, ranking position, favourable conclusion or particular correction outcome.

Sponsored Content

NGB does not currently publish sponsored articles or partner content as a regular commercial format.

If NGB introduces sponsored content, this page and the Sponsored Content Policy will be updated to describe the format and applicable disclosures.

Unless an article is specifically identified as sponsored or commercial material, ordinary NGB editorial content should not be treated as sponsored content.

Affiliate Links

NGB does not currently operate an affiliate programme.

If affiliate links are introduced, pages containing those links will include appropriate disclosure and this page will identify affiliate revenue as part of the publication’s funding model.

Ordinary links to stores, publishers, developers or services do not by themselves indicate that NGB receives affiliate revenue.

Subscriptions and Reader Payments

NGB does not currently use paid subscriptions, memberships or reader donations as a regular funding source.

If a paid reader service is introduced, this page will be updated to identify the service and explain its role in funding the publication.

Investors, Grants and External Funding

No external investors, grants or funding rounds are currently identified as funding sources for NGB.

A historical association, external citation, advertising relationship or editorial collaboration is not treated as investment unless a financial investment relationship actually exists.

If NGB receives material investment, grant funding or another significant external source of funding in the future, that relationship will be identified on this page.

Editorial and Commercial Separation

Commercial relationships do not determine:

  • topic selection;
  • review conclusions;
  • review scores;
  • ranking positions;
  • editorial recommendations;
  • correction decisions;
  • the removal of legitimate criticism.

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

The same separation applies whether advertising is delivered programmatically or arranged directly with NGB.

Programmatic Advertisements

An advertisement delivered automatically near an article does not necessarily mean that NGB has a direct commercial relationship with the advertiser.

Programmatic advertisers do not receive editorial approval rights, endorsements or guaranteed coverage because their advertisements appear on the site.

Advertisements selected by third-party advertising systems are separate from NGB’s editorial recommendations, reviews and reporting.

Changes to Funding

NGB will update this page when a material change introduces a new funding source such as:

  • external investment;
  • grants;
  • paid subscriptions or memberships;
  • affiliate revenue;
  • sponsored articles;
  • reader donations;
  • material licensing or syndication revenue;
  • another significant source of funding.

Updates are intended to keep the public description of NGB’s ownership and revenue model aligned with the way the publication is currently funded.
