This Editorial Policy explains how Next-Gen Gaming Blog selects topics, evaluates sources, distinguishes facts from opinion, manages commercial relationships and maintains responsibility for published material.
The policy applies to news, analysis, explainers, guides, reviews, rankings, interviews, opinion articles and other editorial content published on nextgengamingblog.com.
Editorial Mission
NGB publishes material intended to help readers understand games, gaming platforms, future releases, technical performance and selected gaming hardware.
Our purpose is not simply to repeat every announcement. We aim to identify the details that matter to players, explain what is confirmed, clarify what remains uncertain and provide practical editorial judgement where appropriate.
Editorial value may come from original reporting, careful sourcing, first-hand testing, useful context, comparison, verification or a clearly identified author perspective.
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are based on relevance, evidence, reader usefulness, timing and editorial judgement.
Advertisers, developers, publishers, platform owners, hardware manufacturers, access providers and commercial contacts cannot purchase:
- a positive article;
- a favourable review or score;
- an editorial recommendation;
- a ranking position;
- the removal of legitimate criticism;
- control over an editorial conclusion;
- control over a correction decision;
- guaranteed editorial coverage.
Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.
Receiving a game code, event invitation, interview opportunity, hardware loan, travel arrangement or early-access build does not guarantee favourable treatment. Access may make coverage possible, but it does not replace independent editorial judgement.
Topic Selection
NGB may prioritise a topic when it:
- is directly relevant to games, platforms or gaming hardware;
- is useful to readers;
- contains timely or materially new information;
- affects release timing, availability, performance, pricing or player experience;
- requires clarification because of confusing or conflicting claims;
- can be supported through identifiable sources;
- offers an opportunity for meaningful analysis or first-hand testing;
- corrects a common misunderstanding;
- fits an established NGB section, topic hub or editorial priority.
Receiving a press release, promotional pitch or access offer does not create an obligation to publish. A subject may also be declined when the available evidence is too weak, the topic falls outside NGB’s focus or the article would not provide meaningful reader value.
Source Standards
NGB prefers primary and attributable sources wherever practical.
Sources may include:
- official developer and publisher announcements;
- platform storefronts;
- patch notes and technical documentation;
- official trailers and gameplay presentations;
- public company statements;
- direct interviews and on-record comments;
- first-hand human testing;
- public records and verifiable documents;
- reputable original reporting from other publications;
- clearly described performance measurements or datasets.
Secondary reporting may be used when it contains original information, provides independent verification or adds context that is not available from the primary source.
A press release may be a valid source for what a company has announced, but it is not independent verification of every claim it contains. Sources should be described accurately so readers can understand whether the information is official, independent, observed or reported by another publication.
Promotional Claims
Statements made by a developer, publisher, platform owner or manufacturer should be attributed when they have not been independently verified.
Terms such as “revolutionary,” “industry-leading,” “next-generation,” “unprecedented” or “best-in-class” should not be repeated as objective facts unless supported by evidence appropriate to the claim.
Official footage may demonstrate an announced feature, but it may not establish final retail performance, image quality, stability, content volume or platform parity. Articles should avoid turning a promotional promise into a confirmed conclusion.
Facts, Analysis and Opinion
NGB distinguishes between information that can be checked and conclusions that reflect editorial judgement.
Factual Material
Factual material may include release dates, supported platforms, prices, technical specifications, quotations, patch contents, documented features and observed test results. These claims should be supported by appropriate sources or genuine first-hand observation.
Analysis
Analysis interprets facts, statements, trends, performance results or platform decisions. It should explain the evidence behind its conclusions and identify significant uncertainty, competing interpretations or limitations where relevant.
Opinion
Opinion expresses an author’s argument, reaction, prediction or assessment. Opinion may be critical, positive or cautious, but its supporting factual statements remain subject to verification.
Reviews
Reviews combine observable facts with editorial judgement. A review reflects the tested version, platform, conditions and experience available to the reviewer at the time. It should not present personal preference as a universal fact.
Reviews, Previews and Hands-On Coverage
A review, preview or hands-on article may claim first-hand experience only when a human contributor genuinely accessed the relevant game, build, platform or product.
Where material to the conclusion, coverage may identify:
- the tested platform;
- the hardware configuration;
- the game version or patch;
- graphics and performance settings;
- the testing period;
- whether access was supplied before release;
- significant technical or access limitations.
Preview, demo, alpha, beta and Early Access coverage should not be presented as a final assessment of a completed retail product. The article should make clear which parts of the experience were available and which may still change.
NGB does not claim that every product is independently purchased. Where provided access, loans, travel or other arrangements are material to reader interpretation, they should be disclosed.
Rankings and Recommendations
NGB may publish numerical scores, verdicts, rankings, category winners, anticipated-game lists and recommendation-based selections.
Not every ranking uses a numerical formula. Some are ordered through editorial assessment using criteria relevant to the subject, scope and intended audience.
Rankings should not be altered to reward an advertiser, partner, publisher, developer or access provider.
Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.
The scope of a ranking should be clear enough for readers to understand which platforms, periods, genres or products were considered.
Rumours, Leaks and Unconfirmed Information
Anonymous posts, forum claims, alleged leaks and unidentified insider statements must not be presented as confirmed information.
NGB does not normally use unnamed sources as evidence for published factual claims.
When discussing a rumour as a subject of analysis, the article should make its status clear and should not imply verification that has not occurred. The fact that a claim has been repeated by several accounts does not automatically make it independently confirmed.
Quotations and Attribution
Quotations should reflect the source’s intended meaning and should not be altered in a way that changes the substance.
Minor edits for length, punctuation or clarity should not distort meaning. When a quotation is taken from another publication, the original reporting should be credited where appropriate.
Translation, when required from an external source, should be identified where material and checked carefully.
NGB does not currently use AI translation for editorial content.
Conflicts of Interest
Writers and editors should disclose professional, financial, commercial or personal relationships that could reasonably affect how readers interpret an article.
A material conflict may require:
- an article disclosure;
- additional editorial review;
- reassignment to another contributor;
- removal from a ranking decision;
- a decision not to publish.
A disclosure does not automatically resolve every conflict. Editorial leadership may determine that a relationship is too significant for the contributor to cover the subject fairly.
Gifts, Access, Events and Travel
Review codes, event access, hospitality, travel, hardware loans and other benefits must not guarantee favourable coverage.
Where a material arrangement may affect reader interpretation, NGB should disclose it in or near the relevant article.
Access providers may correct factual misunderstandings when contacted, but they do not receive the right to approve independent conclusions, scores, rankings or criticism.
Advertising and Commercial Separation
NGB may display advertising, including programmatic advertisements delivered through Google advertising services.
The presence of an advertisement near an article does not mean that the advertiser:
- sponsored the article;
- approved its contents;
- influenced its conclusions;
- received a favourable review;
- has a direct commercial relationship with NGB.
Commercial inquiries are handled through [email protected], separately from ordinary editorial inquiries.
Editorial decisions should not be adjusted to protect an advertising relationship from legitimate criticism.
Sponsored and Partner Content
NGB does not currently publish sponsored articles or partner content as a regular commercial format.
If such formats are introduced, they must be clearly labelled, visually distinguishable from independent coverage and governed by the Sponsored Content Policy.
Sponsored content must not be presented as an independent review, and payment must not determine unrelated editorial conclusions.
Affiliate Links
NGB does not currently operate an affiliate programme.
If affiliate links are introduced, affected pages and policies should be updated before or at the time of implementation, and relevant links should be disclosed clearly so readers can understand the commercial relationship.
AI and Editorial Tools
NGB may use AI-generated imagery for selected article covers and illustrations.
NGB does not currently use AI for:
- article drafting;
- translation;
- source summarisation;
- news monitoring;
- fabricated interviews;
- invented first-hand testing.
AI is not an authoritative source. It must not fabricate facts, sources, quotations, people, events, credentials, documents or evidence.
Human editors remain responsible for editorial judgement, source verification, image selection, publication and corrections.
Sensitive Subjects
NGB is not primarily a medical, legal, financial, tax or investment publication. Gaming coverage may nevertheless involve privacy, cybersecurity, workplace conduct, harassment, consumer spending, safety or legal disputes.
Such subjects require additional care, clear attribution and proportionate language. Allegations should not be presented as established facts without appropriate evidence.
NGB content should not be treated as personalised professional advice.
Editorial Review
The exact review process depends on the type, urgency and sensitivity of the article.
Editorial review may include:
- checking that the headline accurately reflects the article;
- reviewing source links;
- checking names, dates, platforms and prices;
- reviewing quotations and attribution;
- checking whether fact, analysis and opinion are distinguished;
- reviewing sensitive or reputational claims;
- checking required disclosures;
- confirming the appropriate content label.
NGB does not claim that every article receives review by multiple editors. Review intensity depends on the article’s complexity, urgency and potential impact.
Updates, Corrections and Archiving
Published articles may be updated when release dates, prices, specifications, platform availability, patches or other material facts change.
Verified factual errors are handled under the Corrections Policy.
Older content may remain accessible as part of the editorial record. Accurate coverage is not normally removed solely because it is unfavourable, although it may be corrected, clarified or updated when necessary.
