Tomb Raider: Catalyst, Kingdom Come and Darksiders 4 Set for 2028 Window

Embracer Group has outlined its upcoming release schedule, confirming Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next Kingdom Come game, and Darksiders 4 are all targeting launch by April 2028, with additional updates on Metro 2039 and other major projects

Embracer Group has provided a clearer release window for several of its most anticipated games, confirming that Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next Kingdom Come title from Warhorse, and Darksiders 4 are all scheduled to launch during the 2028 financial year. This means players can expect these games to arrive between April 2027 and March 2028, though as with all large-scale projects, further changes remain possible.

Major Releases Targeted for 2028

According to Embracer Group CEO Phil Rogers, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next Kingdom Come game, and Darksiders 4 are all planned for release within the company's 2028 financial year. This window runs from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2028, setting a clear timeframe but leaving room for potential adjustments as development progresses. All three projects are described as high-profile, with Tomb Raider: Catalyst representing a new entry in the long-running franchise, while the next Kingdom Come game continues Warhorse's open-world RPG series.

In addition to these, Embracer confirmed that Metro 2039 and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis are both scheduled for February 2027. Legacy of Atlantis is a remake of the original Tomb Raider, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, while Metro 2039 is the latest first-person horror shooter from 4A Games. Embracer noted that Metro 2039 has already reached 1 million wishlists faster than any previous title in its portfolio, with wishlist numbers continuing to exceed expectations.

Development Updates and New Projects

Warhorse is not only focused on the next Kingdom Come game. The studio is also developing a new open-world RPG set in Middle-earth, leveraging Embracer's ownership of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit intellectual property. While details remain limited, the project is led by Viktor Bocan, design director on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. No release window has been announced for the Middle-earth game, and it is not included in the current 2028 schedule.

Embracer's publishing structure is also evolving, with Fellowship Entertainment-currently being spun off-retaining the rights to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Tomb Raider, Darksiders, Dead Island, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro, and Remnant, among others. This consolidation of IPs is intended to streamline development and publishing across the group's studios.

Short-Term Releases and Scheduling

Looking at the near term, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4, which was recently delayed, is now set for release in December 2026. This adjustment follows a series of scheduling updates across Embracer's portfolio, as the company seeks to align its major launches for maximum impact. The February 2027 release dates for Metro 2039 and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis remain unchanged, providing a clearer roadmap for players tracking upcoming launches.

For those interested in the broader landscape of major releases targeting 2028, it is worth noting that other anticipated sequels are also in development. For example, Ron Gilbert's return to the adventure genre with Thimbleweed Park 2 was recently highlighted in our coverage of its 2028 release target, which you can find in this detailed announcement on Thimbleweed Park 2's development.

What Remains Uncertain

While Embracer has provided a more defined release window for its headline projects, there are still significant unknowns. No specific platforms have been confirmed for Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next Kingdom Come game, or Darksiders 4, and no gameplay footage or technical details have been released for any of these titles. The Middle-earth RPG from Warhorse remains without a public release window or gameplay reveal. As with all long-term development plans, these schedules are subject to change based on production realities and shifting priorities within Embracer's portfolio.

Release windows in the games industry are typically tied to financial years, which do not always align with calendar years. A financial year running from April to March means that a game targeting the 2028 financial year could launch at any point between April 2027 and March 2028. This structure allows publishers to plan launches around fiscal reporting, but it also means that precise release dates often remain unconfirmed until closer to launch. Players should treat these windows as targets rather than guarantees, especially for projects still in active development.
