MR. RECORDS Announced for Nintendo Switch 2 with New Gameplay Trailer

Wired Productions and Glee-Cheese have confirmed MR. RECORDS for Nintendo Switch 2, debuting a new gameplay trailer at the Future Games Show during Gamescom and highlighting its rhythm adventure structure

MR. RECORDS, the rhythm adventure from Glee-Cheese and Wired Productions, has been officially announced for Nintendo Switch 2. The news was revealed during the Future Games Show at Gamescom, accompanied by a new gameplay trailer that demonstrates the game's core mechanics and narrative focus. MR. RECORDS was previously introduced at Summer Game Fest's Day of the Devs, where it was selected as one of only 20 titles from over 1,700 submissions, signalling early interest in its distinctive approach to music-driven gameplay.

Gameplay Structure and Features

The latest trailer provides a closer look at George, the central character, and the gameplay loop that defines MR. RECORDS. Players will explore a colourful world by discovering new records, embarking on rhythm-based adventures inspired by each vinyl, and returning to the record shop to sell albums to customers. The shop acts as a narrative and gameplay hub, where players can earn money, expand their collection, and unlock new chapters of George's story. The game promises over 40 handcrafted levels, each designed as a playable journey through surreal, music-inspired dreamscapes.

MR. RECORDS also introduces a variety of original music genres, including funk, progressive rock, hip-hop, electro, world music, and 80s pop, all composed by the development team. Between rhythm sequences, players can relax in George's bedroom hub, review memories, and track progress. The game is structured to offer ongoing variety, with rhythm battles, mini-games, environmental changes, and side activities involving George's dog, Buzz.

Narrative and Artistic Direction

At the heart of MR. RECORDS is George's personal journey. The narrative explores themes of memory, regret, and the pursuit of long-held dreams, with each record unlocking new insights into his life. The record shop is populated by a cast of quirky customers, each with their own stories and musical preferences, encouraging players to engage with the shop's social and puzzle elements. The game's visual style is designed to reflect the emotional tone of each musical journey, with dynamic environments that evolve in response to the soundtrack.

Players will encounter a mix of joyful and bittersweet moments as they uncover George's memories through music, photographs, and notes. The developers emphasise that MR. RECORDS is more than a rhythm game, positioning it as a narrative-driven adventure about rediscovering purpose and connection through music.

Platform Availability and Release Context

MR. RECORDS is confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, with additional listings available for Steam, GOG, and Epic Store. While a specific release date for the Switch 2 version has not been announced, the game is already available to wishlist on major PC storefronts. The announcement follows a trend of indie titles expanding their reach to new hardware, as seen with other recent Switch 2 releases such as Wobbly Life, which is set to arrive on the platform with new features and updates following its own Switch 2 confirmation.

Wired Productions continues to support a diverse portfolio of independent games, while Glee-Cheese builds on its reputation for music-focused titles after the release of A Musical Story and Headbangers Rhythm Royale. Players interested in community engagement can join the official MR. RECORDS Discord, and a press kit is available for media enquiries.

MR. RECORDS has not yet received a confirmed release date for Nintendo Switch 2, and no details have been provided regarding performance targets, resolution modes, or platform-specific features. Further information is expected as the game approaches launch.

Rhythm games like MR. RECORDS rely on precise timing and synchronisation between music and player input. In this genre, gameplay is often structured around matching actions to musical cues, with level design and visual feedback reinforcing the rhythm. The effectiveness of a rhythm game depends not only on the quality of its soundtrack but also on the responsiveness of controls and the clarity of visual indicators. On new hardware such as Nintendo Switch 2, improvements in input latency and display refresh rates can enhance the overall experience, but final performance details will only become clear once the game is closer to release.
