John Wick Joins Fortnite Reload as The Simpsons-Style Unlock

Epic Games has announced that John Wick, styled as a The Simpsons character, will be available to unlock in Fortnite Reload. The crossover brings new features and a Springfield map update, but access requires the current battle pass

Epic Games has revealed that John Wick, the iconic assassin portrayed by Keanu Reeves, will become an unlockable character in Fortnite Reload-this time reimagined in the distinctive style of The Simpsons. The crossover is part of a new update for the Reload mode, which returns players to a Springfield-inspired map and introduces several gameplay changes. Access to the John Wick character requires ownership of the current battle pass, and the event is scheduled to begin on Thursday, 30 July 2026.

Springfield Map and Reload Mode

The Simpsons' hometown of Springfield, which previously appeared in a limited-time mini-season, is making a comeback in Fortnite Reload. This mode supports up to 50 players per match and grants each participant three lives, with rapid respawns until elimination. The map is populated with Simpsons-themed items and locations, aiming to recreate the chaotic energy of last year's event while introducing new twists.

One notable addition is The Confidential, a neutral area on the map where players can passively heal. Proximity chat is enabled within this zone, allowing for real-time voice interaction-though players who break the peace by attacking will be marked for all others, and defeating them yields higher-quality loot. This risk-reward mechanic is designed to encourage both cooperation and calculated aggression.

Unlocking John Wick and New Features

Players who own the current battle pass will be able to unlock the John Wick character, depicted in The Simpsons' signature animation style. The update also introduces an exclusive John Wick Sprite, which can be extracted for use in other modes. This Sprite reveals nearby enemies after a player knocks down or eliminates an opponent, offering a tactical advantage for those who secure it.

Additional changes to Reload include the ability for solo players to earn extra reboots by damaging opponents, and-for the first time in Fortnite-chests will restock over time during a match. These adjustments are intended to keep matches dynamic and provide more opportunities for comebacks, especially for players who prefer to play without a squad.

Access, Timing and Player Requirements

The John Wick crossover event in Fortnite Reload is set to launch on Thursday, 30 July 2026. Players will have approximately three weeks to unlock the character by participating in the mode and progressing through the battle pass. Access to the new content is limited to those who have purchased the current battle pass; there is no indication that the John Wick skin or Sprite will be available through other means at this stage.

Fortnite Reload remains a free-to-play mode, but as with previous collaborations, premium content such as crossover skins and Sprites are typically locked behind the battle pass or in-game purchases. Epic Games has not announced any changes to this structure for the current event.

What Remains Unconfirmed

While the announcement confirms the addition of John Wick in The Simpsons style and outlines the main features of the Reload update, some details remain unclear. Epic Games has not specified whether the John Wick skin will be available in other Fortnite modes after the event ends, nor has it detailed any additional challenges or progression requirements beyond standard battle pass advancement. There is also no information on whether further Simpsons-themed content will be introduced during the event window.

As with previous Fortnite crossovers, the availability of exclusive content is often time-limited and may not return in future seasons. Players interested in unlocking John Wick as a Simpsons character should plan to participate during the announced window to avoid missing out.

Battle passes in live-service games like Fortnite are seasonal progression systems that grant access to exclusive cosmetic items, characters and rewards as players complete in-game challenges and earn experience. These passes typically expire at the end of a season, and their content is rarely made available again. This structure encourages regular engagement and provides a clear incentive for players to participate in limited-time events and collaborations.
