Theo Walcott and Adebayo Akinfenwa joined creators and musicians at PUMA's Oxford Street store as EA SPORTS FC™ 27 brought its new social football experience to life one day before launch.
EA SPORTS FC™ 27 turned PUMA's Oxford Street flagship into a competitive football venue on 24 September. Theo Walcott and Adebayo Akinfenwa joined creators and musicians for the launch event, held one day before the game's worldwide release. Playable matches, live challenges and football culture activities put the game's social focus on display instead of a standard retail presentation.
A launch built around competition
Walcott and Akinfenwa were joined by UK sports content creators and guests including Chip, DJ Maximum, DJ AG and Headie One. Attendees played EA SPORTS FC™ 27 through custom activations. PlayStation UK supplied gaming pods for Crown the Champion match-ups.
The event was set up like a tournament. Walcott and Shizelle faced MK and FG. Other fixtures involved Bov Boys, Hashtag House, Akinfenwa and Headie One. The message was clear: EA SPORTS FC™ 27 is being presented as a social game as much as an annual football release.
The Grounds reaches beyond Clubs
The biggest feature on show was The Grounds. New to EA SPORTS FC™ 27, the social football playground expands the Clubs experience across three districts inspired by English, French and Argentinian football heritage. Players can move between casual kickabouts and more competitive matches in the same wider space.
EA's official Help materials describe The Grounds as a place to "explore, meet other players, and find different ways to play." That makes it a social world, not simply another menu-based mode. Coverage of the feature says shared areas can support up to 100 players, giving the idea of Clubs as a communal football space a clear scale.
PUMA is one of the first partners integrated into The Grounds. Its T7 Collection and PUMA Suedes appeared throughout the physical event and are also available in EA SPORTS FC™ 27. A customisation bay at the store carried that connection into real-world apparel personalisation.
The event's Fast Feet challenge brought one of The Grounds' mini games into the shop. Curtis Davies and Jobi McAnuff set the benchmark scores. Attendees then tried to take the top spot on a live leaderboard. It showed the mode's social design more clearly than a standard trailer by linking short competitive activities to the wider launch event.
What players can access
EA SPORTS FC™ 27 is available through Ultimate Edition Early Access ahead of the global launch on 25 September 2026. Early access began on 18 September for Ultimate Edition owners. EA Play trial access was also made available on Xbox and PC. The standard edition remains scheduled for the worldwide release date.
Pre-orders and launch coverage include PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. GamesPress and other coverage list the same platforms, though feature availability differs between versions.
The Grounds, including Clubs, is limited to the PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. Players on PlayStation®4, Xbox One and the original Nintendo Switch will not receive the feature set described for the newer versions.
This launch is not a public test or an early development demonstration. Guests at PUMA's store could play the game and explore its features. The source provides no independent performance testing, review assessment, measured frame-rate data or resolution data. The available evidence confirms the release timing and the advertised structure of The Grounds. It does not show how consistently the game performs across supported hardware.
Culture as part of the product
Football culture ran through the event. A trophy photo wall displayed silverware from the Premier League and EFL. A DJ-curated soundtrack came from the game's official Spotify playlist. The launch treated the sport's music, fashion, history and creator communities as part of the game rather than as decoration around it.
That approach differs from the closed-alpha model described in an earlier playtest report. EA SPORTS FC™ 27 is already at its worldwide release point, rather than inviting selected players to help shape development. The practical question now is which platforms can access its newest social layer.
EA SPORTS FC™ 27 arrives with a launch strategy built around the same idea as The Grounds. The real-world competitions mirror its social structure, while PUMA adds the cultural and customisation layer. The clearest confirmed point is not a technical breakthrough. It is the game's attempt to become more than an annual football release. Players on current-generation platforms get the fullest version, while older hardware receives the core game without The Grounds and Clubs expansion.
The Grounds is best understood as a social football playground, not a conventional new career mode. Its districts and mini games support short activities and competitive progress around Clubs. Shared areas are reported to accommodate up to 100 players. Early access confirms availability before launch, but it does not replace independent testing of final performance or show that every platform offers the same features.
