Ubisoft has officially launched Year 8 Season 3, titled Red Horizon, for The Division 2. This update marks the first time the Cleaners faction, previously exclusive to New York City, have invaded Washington D.C., reshaping the open world and introducing new threats for SHD agents. Alongside the arrival of the Cleaners, the season brings a suite of gameplay modifiers, a permanent rotation for Toxic Dark Zones, and a confirmed crossplay update set for November.
Cleaners Arrive and New Modifiers
Red Horizon's headline feature is the Cleaners' incursion into D.C., where they now actively participate in open-world activities, seize control points, and trigger Retaliation events. Their presence also introduces a new Elite Kill Squad, known as 95 Company, which can intervene during other faction Retaliations. The Cleaners accumulate Agitation, a mechanic that replaces Black Tusk's influence during certain events, further altering the city's balance of power.
The update debuts a new Pressure Gauge global modifier, rewarding players for aggressive playstyles such as headshot kills and multi-kills, but penalising those who remain out of cover for too long. Once the Pressure Gauge reaches a threshold, players can activate one of three Active Modifiers, granting temporary buffs like increased damage resistance, burn damage spread, or enhanced weapon and shield stats. Notably, Active Modifiers now have no cooldowns this season. Hostile Modifiers, meanwhile, can debuff player stats and benefit enemies, but can be removed by setting foes alight. In total, Red Horizon introduces 20 Passive Modifiers, each offering unique effects on gameplay and progression.
Dark Zone Changes and Classified Assignments
The Division 2's PvE Toxic Dark Zones, first introduced in the Into the Dark update, are now a permanent fixture. Ubisoft has reduced the intensity of the Toxicity mechanic and removed season-specific elements such as canisters, while all enemy factions can now appear in these zones. Rogue protocols remain disabled, shifting the focus to cooperative survival. A new Blackout Dark Zone is also joining the rotation, designed for players seeking to leverage advanced builds without normalisation, allowing SHD Watch and Expertise levels to remain fully active. Prototype gear is permitted at full strength, with PvP overrides in place to maintain balance. Balanced Dark Zones remain unchanged, continuing to offer competitive, skill-based encounters.
Red Horizon also adds two new Classified Assignments. The first, District Mall Inferno, is available now and tasks players with assisting a fellow SHD agent under attack from Cleaners. The second, Georgetown Dead Zone, is scheduled to go live later in the season.
Crossplay, Gear, and Twitch Drops
