Evolve, the latest from Turtle Rock and 2K, debuts next month, but this past weekend players got a taste of what’s to come with a Beta and “technical test” on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. How did it stack up?
I got my hands on it and had a few games, and got a couple of them recorded for you fine folks. Check out the below games, once playing through as the formidable Goliath, and once as part of the small band of 4 hunters as Maggie, the trapper.
I’m really looking forward to Evolve, make no bones about it, and this beta merely fuelled the excitement. The game feels excellently balanced at this stage, and it feels as frantic and exciting as it needs to in all the right places. A trap descending just as the monster is leaping to escape, causing it to succumb to a volley of fire from your assault class feels as exhilarating as it does to escape the exact same situation when playing as the beast. One mistake can swing a match, and clever play from either side can dramatically increase your chances of winning. It’s evident that it’s from the folks who brought the addictive and compelling gameplay of Left 4 Dead, and it’s definitely something to look forward to when Evolve launches on February 10th.
